10/19/2008 Sushi Zanmai, The GardensOk, I am a big fan of Japanese food and I enjoy quality Japanese food. Our Japanese food adventure began with the ever humble and relatively cheap Sushi King. In fact, it was still very expensive for us because we were only schooling that time. Nowadays, Sushi King is a big no-no, just a another McD equivalent sushi chain. Unless they have the RM2 per plate promotion thingy. Then, Jogoya came into the picture, thinking of Jogoya will makes me loose my mind. Jogoya serves seriously hell lot of food and to make our money worthwhile we will definitely stuff ourselves to max. Bad for health. And my vote for the best Japanese food goes to Ikateru @ KL Hilton. It's just too yummy-licious and irresistible, and no words could describe it. One bad thing though, after one decent & satisfying meal there, it takes me 3-4 months salary to recover my food budget. Finally, I found my way to strike a balance to fulfil my hunger for affordable and quality Japanese food - no other than Sushi Zanmai. It's
We flipped through the menu that was full with pictures (good for ppl like me who can't order w/o pictures) and detailed narration of the food available. Then you know lar, we ordered a feast.
We spent around RM 120 for this wonderful meal for 2 person. A bit expensive but I guess we over ordered. Hmm, the standard of Sushi Zanmai was not as good as when they first opened. Honestly, the quality dropped each time I visit the outlet. Maybe because they are are so famous now and became too commercialised and mass produced de! Well, still not too bad though - still one of the better Japanese food outlets in KL I would say. 9/27/2008 Home aloneMy sis abandoned me today. I am home alone. Sick and tired of McD & Pizza delivery and luckily I have Nando's delivery to save the day!! So I picked up the phone, dialled 1300-88-6555, and one very cute guy (ok, I imagined he is cute) answered my call. Then I happily placed my order and waited for 45 mins for the food. After 30 mins, a guy came up at my door step and handed me these..
I have to praise Nando's for the excellent service. I didn't expect the food to be so nicely packed and arrived on time. And Brendon (the cute guy I imagined) even gave me a follow up call to ensure everything is in order! Oh, I'm so loving it! See? Who say you can't have good delivered food when home alone? Forget about McD, goodbye Pizza Hut. 9/21/2008 Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Seafood, Taman CahayaWe first discovered Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Seafood when a family friend brought us there really long time ago. This place is located in Taman Cahaya, somewhere between Cheras & Ampang. If you take MRR2 from Cheras direction, take the exit after Pandan Indah exit, turn right, go straight along Jalan Cahaya, turn right into Jalan Cahaya 1, Nong & Jimmy is at your right. There's nothing to shout about the restaurant ambience & settings. It is one of those makan place located at a car park set up with zinc roofs, with concrete floor and bright lightings.. Although you should not expect great dining experience, in terms of food - EXCELLENTE! We reached there at 6.30 p.m. and it was already packed with patrons. We were lucky enough to get a table before the dinner crowd begin to flood the restaurant. Apparently there are many Muslims who frequent this restaurant too because it only serves seafood. For first timer, it is always a good idea to walk around and see what other table has ordered - it gives you some idea on what's good to eat. Without much hesitation, I proceed to order my favourite BBQ cockle & Tomyam to go with fried rice - the Must Haves at Nong & Jimmy. Besides that, we also ordered fried squid, prawn cake, BBQ Stingray, fried kangkung with belacan, their speciality Yau Char Kuey with Kaya.
What else could I ask for more? This must be one the most satisfying meal I have recently. Our meal for 6 person excluding drinks came up to RM103 which is very reasonable because they really give enough seafood for every dish - so much so that you might get prawn overdose! Thumbs up to Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Seafood Restaurant. 9/14/2008 Amuleto by Crystal Jade, Mid ValleyNever ever trust a food review done by a celebrity blogger. Because they eat for free/ even got paid to eat. Prior to this trip, I read a lot of food review about this restaurant. Apparently, it was highly recommended by most reviewer.
So much said about Amuleto, I invited my friend to try out this new restaurant by Crystal Jade group of restaurant on Friday night. Surprisingly it was quite empty when we reached there at 7.30 p.m. The setting of this restaurant is really nice, with great ambience too. Then we proceed to order our food.
Besides the above, I am eligible for desserts at the Dessert Bar too - they have chocolate fountain with fruits, marshmallows & biscuits. My friend kept grumbling how disappointed he is, so we left early without trying the chocolate fountain. Total bill for 3 person came up to RM 87.55 (inclusive of drinks). There you have.. my first visit to Amuleto after much excitement. One word to describe - DISAPPOINTED! Actually the restaurant wasn't that bad lar. If not because of the "high recommendation" by some bloggers, I would rate Amuleto as a occasionally-worth-to-go-again-but-not-too-often restaurant. Prices are relatively cheap, good services, free wireless Internet access. They have some promotion thingy going on - happy hours, unlimited flow of wine & beer at a quite cheap price. Maybe I should try that next time. I think I should go again to do a proper review next time. Amuleto by Crystal Jade (next to Chili's) 1/23/2008 Sushi Zanmai @ The GardensHad dinner Pam and Shenny at Sushi Zanmai on Tuesday night. The very last time we had dinner together was 2 months ago - I am very glad that they took time to eat with me, had some girls talk, share my frustration at work, update me with stories of her new boyfriend (shenny had been hard selling her guy friend to me!!). Without them, i wonder how my life would be...
Anyways, Sushi Zanmai is one of my favourite japanese restaurant - the atmosphere was good, food was fabulous, with leng chai waiters & cook of course!!
Clockwise from left: Chuka Ilidako & Salmon Salad sushi, Soft Shell Crab Maki, HotateMentaiyaki (cheesebaked scallop) Right: Kaki Fry (fried oyster) Saba Shioyaki (salt grilled mackerel) Hana Ika Tempura (fried cuttlefish) All the above plus another 7 plates of sushi, 1 unagi temaki and 1 Itachoco Monaka (ice-cream waffle) cost us RM 115.46. The price might be slightly above average but you'll definitely get quality food Sushi Zanmai First Floor, Japanese Street, Oasis Boulevard 2, Sunway Pyramid. tel: 03 429 3080 (daily business hour 12.00 nn - 10.00 pm) T-217, Third Floor, The Gardens, Mid Valley City. tel: 2282 1160 (daily business hour 10.00 am - 10.00 pm) |
